THE season of hiking around Mount Taungwine in Mawlamy­ine, Mon State, where pilgrims can enjoy viewing the sea of clouds, will start on the morn­ing of 1 December (Sunday), according to an official of the Thathananwe Foundation.

 

Its climbing season is des­ignated to be December, Jan­uary and February and hiking for public health and visiting for pilgrimage is scheduled to start on 1 December.

 

During the weekends of the three months of the hiking season, any cars, motorcycles or bicycles except those of offi­cials and the monastery on the hill are restricted to passing from 5 am to 9 am to ensure the safety of mountaineers. Free motorcycle and car parking at the entrance will open from 4:30 am to 8 am, and they will not be responsible for the loss of free motorcycle parking tickets.

 

Mountain walkers are ad­vised to dispose of garbage in dustbins to not smoke while walking. In order not to disturb passers-by, the vendors should not go up on the concrete road to sell their goods, but they can sell on the ground at the foot of the mountain, and the food that has a pungent smell, alcohol and beer are not allowed to be sold.

 

The hiking season start­ed in 2022 and pilgrims from all over the country including Mawlamyine, Kyaikmaraw, Mottama and Bilukyun came to climb the mountain. — MT/ZN
