MYANMAR burned narcotic drugs in major cities of the country yesterday, marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
In Taunggyi, 19 kinds of narcotic drugs and 12 types of precursor chemicals worth over K353 billion (US$98 million), which were seized in Shan and Kayah states, were destroyed at the event.
In Yangon, 25 kinds of narcotic drugs and 11 types of precursor chemicals worth over K424 billion ($118 million) that were seized in Yangon, Ayeyawady, Bago, Taninthayi, Mon, Kayin, Rakhine, were also destroyed.
Moreover, 26 kinds of narcotic drugs and 17 types of precursor chemicals worth over K295 billion ($82 million) that were seized in Mandalay, and the upper and middle parts of the country, were burnt in Mandalay Region.
This year, the country burnt 66 kinds of drugs and precursor chemicals, including heroin, opium, methamphetamine, ICE, Happy Water, speciosa powder, cannabis and ketamine worth over K1,072 billion ($297 million) in Yangon, Mandalay, Taunggyi and Sagaing.
Moreover, the ceremony to award the winners of different categories for short stories, articles, and so on, marking the 38th International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, was also organized at the designated places in Nay Pyi Taw and different regions and states, with the attendance of relevant officials.
From 1 June 2024 to 31 May 2025, the police seized drugs and precursor chemicals worth over K972.461 billion. — MNA/KTZH
