The high-level Myanmar delegation led by Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing during his official visit to the Republic of Buryatia of the Russian Federation toured the Baikal Lake and the Ulan-Ude Locomotive and Carriage Repair Plant (LVRZ) yesterday morning.
The Senior General, his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla and his entourage, together with Head of the Republic of Buryatia Mr Aleksey Sambuyevich Tsydenov and officials flew over the Baikal Lake by helicopter. During the visit, the Head of the Republic of Buryatia explained facts about the lake and conservation measures. The Senior General asked what he wanted to know.

The Baikal Lake is located between Irkutsk Oblast of Southern Siberia of Russia and the Republic of Buryatia. It is the deepest worldwide with 1,642 metres (5,387 feet) in depth. Furthermore, it is also said to be one of the oldest freshwater lakes, having existed for about 30 million years. Such a freshwater lake was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. The lake is home to some 1,000 rare plant species and approximately 2,500 animal species. It is known for its crescent moon-like shape and is recognized as a lake rich in natural beauty and exceptional heritage.
At the Ulan-Ude Locomotive and Carriage Repair Plant (LVRZ), the Senior General and party were welcomed by Head of the plant Zaborskikh Sergey Alexandrovich and officials. The Senior General and party viewed round repair process and held discussions over clarifications.
The head of the plant and officials explained repair and maintenance process of the plant, creation of employment, and its economic cooperation with international community in detail. The Senior General asked about something he wanted to know.
The plant was established in 1934. It operates under Zheldorrem-mash Company, a major global company specializing in the repair of railway-related equipment and the production of spare parts. The plant carries out its operations in three main areas: locomotive repair, machinery production, and spare parts manufacturing. In addition, the plant is also engaged in upgrading repair technologies, improving the average performance of locomotives, providing warranty services, extending the service life of locomotives, and modernizing locomotive systems.
Local media from Arigus, ATV and Tivicom from the Republic of Buryatia covered the news about the visit of the Senior General and his entourage at the plant.
After the visit, the Senior General and the Head of the Republic of Buryatia replied to queries raised by local media about enhancement of friendship and cooperation between Myanmar and the Republic of Buryatia, and promotion of cooperation in economic, education, industrial technology and tourism sectors between the two countries. — MNA/TTA
