MYANMAR delegation led by Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr Kan Zaw paid a visit to the Haikou Integrated Free Trade Zone in Hainan Province of Chi­na from 1 to 3 June at the invi­tation of the Haikou Integrated Free Trade Zone Committee.

 

On 1 June, the Myanmar delegates arrived at Haikou and visited the Haikou Inte­grated Free Trade Zone on 2 June morning, and the officials of the zone clarified the work processes.

 

The Union minister and par­ty visited and observed the Elec­tronic Trading Industry Park, modern agricultural and food production factories, jewellery manufacturing factories, facto­ries producing standard-certi­fied diamonds and gemstones, and logistics and business operation centres in the zone compound.

 

At noon, the Union minister and party met with Haikou Inte­grated Zone Committee mem­bers and discussed enhancing quality processing and techno­logical advancement in the gem­stone and jewellery industries and promoting cooperation in trade, investment, and economic activities. They visited duty-free shops (China Duty-Free Shop), the Haikou International Con­vention Centre, and the Hainan Museum.

 

On 3 June morning, the Un­ion minister and party received Mr Fan Shaojun, a permanent committee member of the Hainan Province Party and the secretary of the Hainan Region Committee at Grand Hotel Hai­kou. During the meeting, they cordially exchanged views on bilateral relations, economic co­operation and progress in the trading sector, matters related to the Hainan Free Trade Port, the gems and jewellery sector and further cooperation in the cultural and tourism sectors.

 

At noon, the Union minister attended the Haikou-Myanmar Economics and Trade Cooper­ation Exchange Meeting held at Grand Hotel Haikou and dis­cussed Myanmar-China bilat­eral cooperation, investment, conditions of special economic zones of Myanmar, potential op­portunities for cooperation with Hainan, the jade and jewellery sector and further cooperation with Hainan Free Trade Port.

 

The Myanmar delegates arrived back in Yangon on the evening of 3 June.

 

The deputy minister for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conserva­tion and officials of the minis­tries concerned attended the meeting. — MNA/KTZH
