The Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation acknowledged Myanmar’s capacity to successfully conduct elections despite facing various challenges.

 

Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received a delegation led by Mr Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, at the Credentials Hall of the Office of the National Defence and Security Council in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.

 

At the meeting, the Senior General warmly welcomed the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federa­tion and all members of the delegation, and stated that, starting from 28 Decem­ber 2025, the multiparty democratic gen­eral election had been held successfully in three phases. He added that the final list of elected representatives would be announced today, and that a Hluttaw session would be convened during the third week of March. He further noted that the visit of the distinguished guest at a time when the election in Myanmar had been successfully concluded was of special significance, and expressed confidence that, during the visit, bilateral friendship and cooperation between the two countries would be further enhanced.

 

The Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation expressed his thanks for the warm welcome extended to himself and all members of the dele­gation and for the opportunity to meet. He stated that Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, President of the Russian Feder­ation, wished to personally convey and present a message of congratulations on the successful holding of the multiparty democratic gen­eral election in Myanmar. He further noted that, despite various challenges, Myan­mar’s ability to successful­ly conduct the election was recognized by the Russian side, and affirmed that co­operation between the two countries across all sectors would continue to be further strengthened and expanded.

 

They exchanged views on activities of the international election observation teams including that of Russia to monitor the election process of the multiparty democratic general election in Myanmar with active participation of people who cast ballots, as­sessment for a free and fair election, efforts of the Myan­mar government to restore internal peace, remembrance and appreciation of Russia for Myanmar Tatmadaw which participated in the military parade commemo­rating the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) held in the Russian Federation, the common history between Myanmar and Russian in re­sisting Fascists, further coop­eration in security measures including cybersecurity and information security between the two countries, implemen­tation of combatting telecom fraud and online gambling in Myanmar as a national duty, and aspects to jointly combat these activities, and enhancement of cooperation in economic and trade, gener­ating electricity, development of space technology and edu­cation sectors.

 

After the meeting, the Senior General and the Rus­sian Security Council Secre­tary exchanged gifts and had documentary photos taken.

 

Also present at the meet­ing were Commission Sec­retary General Ye Win Oo, Union ministers and officials. The Secretary of the Russian Security Council was accom­panied by Mr Iskander Azizov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Myanmar, and officials of the Russian Gov­ernment. — MNA/TTA
