Myanmar’s   hospice   care   ranked  seventy-sixth  in  the  world,  according  to  Dr  Hla  Maung,  the  patron  of  U  Hla  Tun  Myitta  Yeik  Mon  Cancer  Foundation. 


“There are free care centres  in  Yangon  and  Mandalay    for  the  cancer  patients  who  were given up by doctors due to terminal ill. The terminally ill  cancer  patients  were  provided with free cares. The hospice  care  in  Myanmar  globally  ranked  76th,”  said  Dr  Hla  Maung  at  the  donated  cash  presentation ceremony for cancer  patients  at  the  U  Hla  Tun  Myitta Yeik Mon Cancer Foundation in Yangon yesterday.  


Hospice  is  a  type  ofcare  provided  for  terminally  ill  cancer  patients  who  were  given up by doctors.


In 2015, Lien Foundation and The Economist Intelligence Unit jointly conducted a survey on terminally ill cancer patients  in  80  countries,  and  compiled a list. 


According the list, the top ten Hospice care countries are Britain the first, Australia the second, New Zealand the third, Ireland the fourth, Belgium the fifth, Chinese Taipei the sixth, Germany  the  seventh,  Netherlands the eighth, the United States  the  ninth  and  France  the tenth.


Out of the eighty countries, Myanmar  ranked  seventy-  sixth  after  U  Hla  Tun  Myitta  Yeik  Mon  Cancer  Foundation  centres  were  established  in  Yangon and Mandalay.


Public  accountant  and  financial  advisor  Outstanding  Humanitarian  Service  Award  recipient U Hla Tun established the foundation in 1998 after his only daughter died of blood cancer.


Since the establishment of the  foundation,  2,713  hospice  patients in Yangon and 3,481 patients in Mandalay were provided cares.
