THE ASEAN-China Tourism Secu­rity and Safety Forum and Travel Facilitation and Tourism Statistics Harmonization Workshop, jointly organized by the Ministry of Ho­tels and Tourism, ASEAN-China Centre and Lancang-Mekong In­tegrated Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation Centre, took place at the Sedona Hotel in Yan­gon yesterday.

 

Jeng Phang Naw Taung, Un­ion Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs and for Hotels and Tour­ism, and Deputy Minister U Phyo Zaw Soe met Mr Shi Zhongjung, Secretary-General of ASEAN-Chi­na Centre, and openly discussed enhancement of cooperation in the tourism industry, exchange of visits, implementation of plans mentioned in the agreement and MoU of tourism cooperation and human resource development.

 

At the opening ceremony of the ASEAN-China Tourism Secu­rity and Safety Forum, the Union minister said that exchanging ideas, knowledge, and innovative solutions, practical strategies can be developed through the forum. Collaboration across multiple sec­tors is crucial in order to imple­ment effective measures to protect tourists and the tourism industry. Moreover, the mutual support and cooperation between ASEAN and China can help foster and enhance a better environment for travellers from around the world.

 

Mr Shi Zhongjung, Secre­tary-General of ASEAN-China Centre and Mr Davuth LY, Dep­uty-Secretary General of Lan­cang-Mekong Integrated Law Enforcement and Security Coop­eration Centre, made remarks, and a video message of ASEAN Secretary General Dr Kao Kim Hourn was played.

 

The attendees discussed dif­ferent topics covering tourism safe­ty and security for sustainable re­gional development, ensuring safe and secure travel for tourists from Myanmar and Thailand, tourism security in the digital era, regional development through a safe and resilient tourism environment and a safe and secure tourism industry.

 

At noon, the Union minister made an opening speech at the Tourism Statistics Harmonization Workshop, and Mr Shi remarked.

 

Participants discussed the im­portance of travel facilitation, pro­cedures for information exchange, utilizing global tourism statistics for sustainable development, and sharing best practices and experi­ences in developing tourism statis­tics. — MNA/KTZH
