Myanmar National Committee on Women meet for COVID-19 response programmes

Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye, in his capacity as the Chairman of Myanmar National Committee on Women, presided over its meeting on video conferencing at his office in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.

At the meeting, the Union Minister discussed global social economic impacts on women and children, suffering from both natural disasters and COVID-19 diseases, Myanmar’s responses to the pandemic with forming committees, requirements of rehabilitation works for the existing and future plans for addressing problems from this pandemic, healthcare programmes for women and female workers, and prevention of sexual violence during this period.

Deputy Minister U Soe Aung also called for the reports from women committees.

The Social Affairs Ministers, as well as the chairpersons of women committees from Nay Pyi Taw Council, States and Regions, also discussed their ongoing activities for addressing violence against women and quarantine programmes for pregnant women who returned from foreign countries.

Then, officials from related government agencies made discussions about their works, followed by civil organizations on woman affairs presented their activities and relief programmes in facing against the problems from COVID-19 outbreak.—MNA (Translated by Aung Khin)
