THE second meeting of the Myanmar-Russia Joint Co­ordination Committee on Cooperation in the Utiliza­tion of Nuclear Energy for Peaceful Purposes was held in a hybrid format on 5 Feb­ruary, co-chaired by Dr Aung Zeya, Deputy Minister for Science and Technology, and Mr Nikolay Spassky, Deputy Director-General of the State Atomic Energy Corporation of the Russian Federation (Rosatom).

 

In addition to the Minis­try of Science and Technology, officials from the committee member ministries – Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Planning and Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Investment and Foreign Eco­nomic Relations, Ministry of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Natural Resources and En­vironmental Conservation, Ministry of Electric Power, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Commerce, and Ministry of Health – attended the meet­ing in person, while officials from Rosatom participated via video conference.

 

During the meeting, they discussed the development of the legal framework and infrastructure for nuclear energy, nuclear technician training and development, and cooperation in the ad­vancement of science and nuclear technology to sup­port the country’s long-term development and the soci­oeconomic prosperity of its people, and signed the meet­ing minutes between the two countries. — MNA/TH
