THE Myanmar Sepak Takraw team, which won two gold and two bronze medals at the China-ASEAN Sepak Takraw Invitational Tournament held in China from 1 to 4 June, returned to Yangon yesterday at around 1:30 pm. The team was led by U Sai Zaw Tun Lin, team leader, along with two administrators, two coaches, and both the men’s and women’s teams.
The team was welcomed back by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, regional ministers, senior officials from the Department of Sports and Physical Education, officials from the Myanmar Sepak Takraw Federation, members of the Sports and Youth Affairs Supporting Committee and students from the Institute of Sports and Physical Education (Yangon). Following the reception, the Chief Minister and committee members presented cash awards to the victorious players in recognition of their success.
Teams from Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, the Philippines and China participated in the China-ASEAN Invitational Sepak Takraw Tournament. Myanmar’s national men’s team claimed gold medals in both the regu and quadrant events, while the women’s team secured bronze medals in the same two events. — Arkar Linn/KZL
