According to the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department, a total of 12.9 million acre-feet of irrigated water has been stored in dams across the country.
The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology forecast that El Niño will likely occur in 2024, so the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department systematically stored the irrigated water nationwide.
The currently stored water volume is higher than the amount compared to the same period of 2022 and 2021.
The irrigated water will be distributed to summer paddy cultivation areas using dams, sluice gates, creeks and rivers, water pumping, intake channels and outfall channels.
The arrangements are also carried out to tap underground water for the upcoming summer crop season. — TWA/KTZH
