A Lethwei challenge between Myanmar Lethwei fighters and Muay Thai warriors will be staged in Hpa-an, the capital city of Kayin State on 20 and 21 March under Myanmar’s Lethwei rules.

The Lethwei event marks the Buddha Pujaniya festival of Maha Zwekabin Hsandawshin Pagoda, a historic holy spot for the Buddhists in Kayin State and beyond. Thway Thit Aung who is considered one of toughest Lethwei fighters, will clash with a Thai opponent in the main event. Karen Lethwei warrior Saw Min Aung will battle a Thai fighter in the co-main event. Yan Naing Tun, an defeated and fastest rising Lethwei star will face off veteran Lethwei combatant Htet Aung Oo. There will also be another three bouts between Myanmar fighters during the fight on 20 March.

At the challenge to be held on 21 March, Thway Thit Win Hlaing, one of the most promising Lethwei warriors will fight against a Muay Thai champion in the main event. Yan Naing Aung, an experienced Lethwei fighter representing Taungkalay Club will compete with a Thai rival in the co-main event. The Lethwei challenge will also feature another three bouts between Myanmar fighters.

In addition, there will also be other bouts with up and coming fighters during the event. The Lethwei challenges will be broadcast live on CANAL+ channel.—By Kyaw Htike Soe
