Myanmar wins Hero Gold Cup 2019, beats Nepal 3-1

The Myanmar national wom-en’s football team won the Hero Gold Cup 2019 by beating the Nepal team 3-1 in the final of the tourney at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar, India, yesterday night.

Team Myanmar lined up with Win Theingi Tun, Khin Moe Wai, Ye Ye Oo, July Kyaw, Captain Khin Malar Tun, Khin Mo Mo Tun, Khin Thazin, Khin Than Wai, Wai Wai Aung, Ei Yadanar Phyo, and goalkeeper Zar Zar Myint.

Myanmar fought hard to score right from the kick-off, with Nepal putting up a good defence for Myanmar strikers.

But, Myanmar’s experience showed, with Yee Yee Oo scoring an icebreaker at 30 minutes.

A few minutes later, Ne-pal’s Manjali Kumari scored the equalizer, and the first half finished with both teams tied at 1-1. Nepal showed their strength in the second half, with the team concentrating on the game.

But, it was Myanmar which scored its second goal at 54 min-utes. The goal was scored by Myanmar women’s football star Win Theingi Tun.

Myanmar dominated with forceful play after the goal, with Ye Ye Oo securing the third goal at 62 minutes.

Myanmar toned down their power play in the later minutes as the score was enough for a win, and the cup went to Myan-mar after the final whistle blew.

With the victory, Myan-mar lifted the coveted trophy as an undefeated team in the tournament. Earlier, Myanmar had defeated Nepal 3-0 and beat India and Iran 2-0 at the group stage.—Lynn Thit (Tgi)
