THE National Commit­tee on the Resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons and the Closure of Temporary Shelters held its second coordina­tion meeting yesterday at the Ayeyawady Hall of the Ministry of Border Affairs.

 

The meeting was at­tended by Chairman Un­ion Minister Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, Vice-Chair­man Union Minister Dr Soe Win, committee mem­bers, deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, directors-general, offi­cials, and relevant region­al and state government members. The state and regional ministers for Se­curity and Border Affairs and the state and regional minister of Social Affairs participated online.

 

Chairman Union Minister Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung highlighted the committee’s success­es over the past three years and discussed on­going work, plans, and the budget for 2025-2026. Since the last meeting in May 2024, 35,245 house­holds (141,788 people) have been repatriated, and 380 temporary shel­ters have been closed. Over K6,477 million were spent on humanitari­an aid, roads and house building, relief aid and dis­tribution of construction materials.

 

Vice-Chair Union Minister Dr Soe Win ex­plained the status of re­lief efforts, social support, vocational training, and immediate assistance for returnees. The meeting concluded with discus­sions on plans.

 

The deputy ministers, chairpersons of the Work­ing Committee on the Re­settlement of Internally Displaced Persons and the Closure of Temporary Shelters, the state and re­gional ministers for Se­curity and Border Affairs, and the state and regional minister for Social Affairs presented sector-by-sec­tor explanations on the work completed and the plans to be implemented going forward.

 

Members of the na­tional-level committee and officials from the state-lev­el committees discussed and explained the rec­ommendations, and the chair and vice-chair of the national-level committee coordinated the explana­tions. — MNA/TS
