Niigata University of Japan and National Health Laboratory signed MoU in Yangon yesterday in the presence of Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe and officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe stated gradual development of both the government and the private sectors for progress of the country’s health undertakings. “The private sector must take into account the quality and safety alongside the rules and regulations, medical ethics, social conducts and business codes of conduct in providing public healthcare services,” he urged, adding, “The division concerned under the ministry is regulating public healthcare services within the legal framework and rules.”

DHIS-2 had been introduced at 43 hospitals through staff trainings, he explained, and urged specialist physicians of the government and private sectors to lead staff efficiency promotion programs.

The Union Minister stressed the adoption of monitoring and evaluation system at hospitals in compiling a checklist of quality services, and pointed out the importance of government-private cooperation in the health sector. “A national seminar will be held soon to share suggestions and means toward cementing government-private cooperation,” he said.

Patron of National League for Democracy (NLD) U Win Htein, Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Phyo Min Thein and a member of the panel of patrons of Myanmar Medical Council Prof Dr Maung Maung Wint also gave speeches at the signing ceremony.

Deputy Director-General Prof Dr Htay Htay Tin of National Health Laboratory and Prof Toshiyuki Someya, Dean of the Medical School of Niigata University, extended greetings. The two professors signed the MoU. Also present were Chief Minister of Bago Region U Win Thein, MPs, officials of the ministry and private hospitals, health professionals and guests.—MNA (Translated by TMT)
