The second coordination meeting of National Nutrition Steering Committee was held at the Horizon Lake View Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe, the chairman of committee, presided over the meeting, with emphasizing the importance of nutrition for the multi-sectoral development of the country.
He also said his ministry is implementing the five-year Multi-sectoral National Plan of Action on Nutrition (MS-NPAN) 2018-2023, while Myanmar is expanding vaccination programme and actively participating as a member country in the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) movement for reducing malnutrition in accordance with its slogan of “1,000 Days: Change a Life, Change the Future”. The movement covered dissemination of nutrition knowledge in states and regions and nutrition campaigns for pregnant women and under-2-year children started in 2013 by setting up five networks involving experts and organizations from relevant sectors.
Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Thu also explained the objectives of his ministry to produce nutritious food items through good agricultural practices and hygiene water programme, and implementation of Nutrition Sector Reform Contract in Ayeyawady Region and Shan State with direct grant of 70 million euros and additional funds of 42 million euros from EU.
Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Ohn Win pledged for the full participation of his ministry in nutrition programme of the country.
Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi discussed school health programme of his ministry.
The officials concerned presented implementation of decisions from the first steering committee meeting, and drafting State/Region plans for the five-year Multi-sectoral National Plan of Action on Nutrition.
The chairman and members of steering committee and the Union Ministers coordinated the works of the committee.
