The National Races Village, located in Thakayta Township, Yangon Region, was crowded with visitors from across the country during the Tazaungdaing festival holidays, according to officials.

“These days, there are more than 8,000-10,000 visitors per day. The National Races Village has entertained visitors with traditional dances during the festival. Moreover, the reason for the increase in the number of visitors is the erection of signs advertising the National Races Village in busy places, which has encouraged more people to visit it,” said U Myo Win, deputy head of the National Races Village (Yangon) office.

A total of 5,200 local visitors and 175 tourists visited the village on 10 November, while a total of 13,000 local visitors and 177 tourists visited the village on 11 November. The admission fee per person has been fixed at K500 for locals and K3,000 for foreigners. Children under 10 years can enter the village free of charge.

Currently, the National Races Village displays information about eight major races and the Salon ethnic gallery. The different styles of houses of the ethnic people and their musical instruments as well as ethnic costumes are also on display at the village.

“The National Races Village was constructed by the Ministry of Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs on December 28, 2002. It is open from 9 am to 5:30 pm daily. We will upgrade the village to make it one of the attractive places in Yangon for foreigners to visit,” according to the National Races Village (Yangon) office.—Myint Maung
