20 March
The Nay Pyi Taw Council made an order of measures to prevent Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) in its Union Territory, dated on 18 March.
The document called for cooperation of public and private sectors in preventive measures against the pandemic.
The order has also banned organizing mass gatherings, public meetings and training courses at the offices of ministries and administration offices in Nay Pyi Taw until 30 April.
Hotels, motels and guesthouses were also instructed to postpone various occasions, including religious or social events.
Entertainments and festivals, such as Thingyan, will not be allowed during this period. Regular or weekly compulsory religious services are to be held with the least number of participants in line with the instructions of the Ministry of Health and Sports.
Universities, basic education schools, Ministry of Education’s certified schools and private schools are to follow the directives of ministry, and the private dormitories are to close temporary, while nursery schools under the Social Welfare Department and its accredited kindergartens are to abide by the rules of the department.
The order seriously prohibited spread of false rumours, and strongly urged the residents in Union Territory Nay Pyi Taw to strictly follow the real-time announcements of Ministry of Health and Sports to prevent Covid-19.
People are also suggested to inform about anyone with suspected symptoms to the nearby health centre through local administrators, as a move to cooperate in preventive measures.—Kay Tar (Translated by Aung Khin)
