Around 1,500 Afghan refugee families returned to their homeland, Afghanistan, from neighboring Pakistan and Iran in a single day on Monday, according to the Bakhtar news agency on Tuesday.

"A total of 1,469 Afghan refugee families returned via several crossing points, with the majority of them from Iran yesterday," the state-owned media outlet added.

All the returned families have received necessary assistance from the Afghan authorities at the crossing points, the media outlet further said.

The return of Afghan refugees from Iran has increased following the Israeli strikes on Tehran since June 13.

About 2 million Afghan refugees have returned home over nearly two years.
