A ceremony to hand over 229.52 tons of rice to the local government by the Republic of Korea was held at Tawwin Hinthar Hall of the local government office in Bago yesterday afternoon.

In his opening address, Bago Region Chief Minister U Win Thein said that many countries around the world including Myanmar are suffering from consequences of climate change. He also expressed thanks to Korean government and people for donating rice to disaster victims in Myanmar.  The contribution was made by the Korean government under Tier 3 Programmes of the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR).


Next, the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Agriculture U Aye Ko Ko and Head of the APTERR Secretariat Mr. Chanpithya explained the purpose of donation. Then, Mr. Yang Dong Woo, a commercial attaché from Korean Embassy in Yangon handed over 229.52 tons of rice to the regional ministers who returned certificates of honour to him.


Concerned officials will manage distribution of rice bags to 29,320 flood victims in Kawa, Bago, Pyay, Paukkhoung, Paungde, Shwetaung, Zigon and Nattalin Townships.
