THE One ASEAN One Response (OAOR) Roadshow workshop jointly organized by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and the AHA Centre was held yesterday morning at the Park Royal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.

During the opening ceremony, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win delivered a video message, stating that the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM) and the AHA Centre have been actively implementing the One ASEAN One Response Declaration. He highlighted Myanmar’s effective response and management of natural disasters, such as Cyclone Mocha in 2023 and Typhoon Yagi in 2024, which led to severe flooding. He also acknowledged ASEAN’s support through the AHA Centre in providing relief supplies and technical assistance, expressing gratitude for the cooperation that has significantly contributed to the implementation of the One ASEAN One Response initiative.

Following this, the Department of Disaster Management briefed participants on Myanmar’s disaster response and management processes. The ASEAN Secretariat elaborated on ASEAN’s disaster management policies and emergency response mechanisms, while the AHA Centre discussed the ASEAN Standard Operating Procedure for Regional Standby Arrangements and Coordination of Joint Disaster Relief and Emergency Response Operations (SASOP). Representatives from the ASEAN-ERAT (ASEAN Emergency Response and Assessment Team) and UNDAC (United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination) provided insights into their operations.
