One child was killed and ten others lightly injured after a minibus plunged into a gorge in Mohnyin Township, Kachin State on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

           

The minibus carrying 13 pilgrims returned from Mt. Zalon, a popular Buddhist holy site in Bamauk Township. The vehicle driven by a man identified as Nay Myo Oo, 43 years old from Phakant Township plummeted into a 15 ft. deep canyon as the driver lost control of the car. The accident occurred between mileposts 180/7 and 181/1 near Mawhan Village in Mohnyin Township at around 9:30 a.m. on 20 March.

           

A kid from Phakant Township died on the spot and 10 others—7 men and 3 women—were hurt in the incident. The injured people were admitted to a public hospital in Mohnyin. The driver is being questioned over reckless driving by the local police station.—MOHA
