Myawady, 24 June
One man was killed and five others slightly injured after a 22-wheeled truck overturned in Myawady, a border town in Kayin State, the Ministry of Home Affairs said.
The tragic accident occurred between mileposts 160 and 161 on the Myawady-Kawkareik Road at about 5:40 p.m. on 21 June. A 22-wheeled truck loaded with corn kernel bags flipped over and crashed into two men collecting empty water bottles besides the road. Firefighters from two local fire service stations rushed to the scene of accident and carried out the rescue operation. The cause of traffic accident is attributed due to the faculty braking system of the vehicle.
One man was pronounced dead on the spot and five others sustained minor injuries in the incident. The injured people were transferred to a public hospital in Myawady and the truck driver identified as Ye Lin Aung is being questioned over reckless driving by the local police.
