One person was killed and six others slightly injured in a head-on collision between a 22-wheeled truck and a passenger bus in Kyaikto Township, Mon State.

The fatal accident occurred between mileposts 114/3 and 114/4 on the Yangon-Mawlamyine Road near Kyuchaung Village in Kyaikto Township at about 10 p.m. on 4 February when a Mawlamyine-bound truck collided with a passenger bus coming from opposite direction to head for Yangon from Mawlamyine. The passenger bus was forced to enter the compound of a nearby house.

Bus helper identified as Zin Thu Phyo, 27, was reportedly pronounced dead on the spot and six others sustained minor injuries in the incident. The body of the bus helper and all injured people were transferred to a public hospital in Kyaikto for medical treatment. 

Action has been taken against the drivers of truck and passenger bus over reckless driving by the local police station.—Win Maung (Kyaikto)
