An explosion and a fire at a West Virginia chemical plant killed one person and injured three others on Tuesday night, local officials said.
The blast occured after 10 p.m. Tuesday at Optima Chemicals Co, a tenant on the Chemours Co's property, also the plant's site, told multiple networks.
One person died Wednesday, Kanawha County Commission said in a statement. The victim's family later identified him as plant worker John Gillenwater.
Officials believed the blast involved chlorinated dry bleach and methanol, but the exact cause needs further investigation, according to County Commissioner Kent Carper.
