Lawksawk, 20 April

Fire broke out at a monastery in Bayaphyu Village in Lawksawk Township, Shan State at about 9:00 pm on 19 April.

The fire was believed to have started from a lighted candle in a prayer room in the Monastery and inflicting the estimated loss of Ks. 6.80 million. One monk was slightly injured and another monk was died in the fire.

Firemen from the Township Fire Services Department rushed to the scene to fight the fire with the use of one fire-engine and one water tanker in collaboration with locals, and the blaze was brought under control at about 9:30 pm and successfully extinguished at about 11:15 pm.

Sayadaw Zuthawma, 25, was charged for his negligence in Lawksawk Myoma Police Station.—Su Mon(Lawksawk)
