Ninety-four human trafficking cases, involving over 140 victims, have been reported in the nine months this year (January-September). Among them, 36 are young girls, according to the Myanmar Anti-Human Trafficking Police Force. The task force’s record showed 15 reported human trafficking cases in January, seven in February, nine in March, six each in April and May, 15 in June, 14 in July, 16 in August and six in September.

The cases involve 253 suspects and 142 victims, and forced marriage, forced sexual service and labour exploitation are reported. The trafficking cases were reported in China, Thailand, Malaysia and the domestic labour market, with the majority of victims sent to China for forced marriage, Myanmar Anti-Human Trafficking Police Force reported.

Of 94 cases, 68 cases of forced marriages were reported in China, while the other two issues of forced marriage also happened in the domestic labour market. Twelve cases of forced sexual service and seven cases of labour exploitation occurred in the country. Two cases of labour exploitation in Malaysia and one each in Thailand and China, one surrogacy in China were reported.

Among the regions and states, Shan State witnessed 29 cases of human trafficking, followed by Yangon with 27 cases. Nine trafficking cases were registered in Mandalay Region, eight in Kachin State, seven in Ayeyawady Region, six in Bago Region, two each in Magway and Taninthayi regions, and one each in Rakhine State, Kayin State, Sagaing Region and Nay Pyi Taw in January and September.
