Farmers in Kanbalu Township of Sagaing Region have finished cultivation of over 188,000 acres of oilseed crops this cold season, according to the Township Agriculture Department.
The Township Agriculture Department has designated to grow 202,217 acres of oilseed crops such as groundnut, sesame, sunflower, niger or guizotia abyssinica and mustard starting from September this year, and as of now, a total of 188,010 acres of oilseed crops including 87803 acres of groundnut, 95715 acres of sesame, 1927 acres of sunflower, 2033 acres of Niger or Guizotia abyssinica and 532 acres of mustard have been planted.
"202,217 acres of varieties of oilseed crops have been allocated to plant this cold season in the entire Township, and as of 30 November, 188,010 acres of oilseed crops have been cultivated. Now, relevant officials from Department of Agriculture are imparting knowledge on agricultural sector to farmers,’’ said an official from the Township Department of Agriculture.
Local farmers in Kanbalu Township are mainly engaged in agricultural business, and they are expanding their seasonal cultivation of crops by consulting with agricultural experts.—Aung Win Nyein(Kanbalu)
