FROM January to December 2024, over 240,000 international visitors and ap­proximately 1.9 million domestic tour­ists travelled to destinations across Yangon Region, according to U Aung Thet Htun, Deputy Director of the Yan­gon Region Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.

 

Most international visitors, primar­ily from China, Thailand, and South Korea, arrived via air through Yangon International Airport, holding various types of visas. U Aung Thet Htun stated, “In 2024, Yangon Region received over 240,000 international tourists, with the majority arriving by air. Visitors from China, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, India, Vietnam, the United States, Chi­nese (Taipei), and Singapore contrib­uted to the largest numbers”.

 

 

Regarding domestic tourism, over 600,000 tourists arrived in Yangon by air, primarily as returnees to the region. Moreover, around 1.9 million domestic tourists entered Yangon via various modes of transport, including rail, road, and air, during the year.

 

U Aung Thet Htun noted, “Among these figures are domestic tourists departing Yangon for other states and regions”.

 

To further develop the hotels and tourism sector in Yangon Region, collaboration is ongoing among the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, the Yangon Region Government, the My­anmar Tourism Federation, the Yangon Zone Hoteliers Association, and other relevant organizations. — ASH/KNN
