The Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is implementing various programs, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS), to detect and seize illegal timber and forest products in collaboration with the public.
According to reports from the Nay Pyi Taw, State, and Region Forest Departments, from February 10 to 16 this year, a total of 86.79 tons of timber were seized across the Nay Pyi Taw Council area, States, and Regions. This included 12.55 tons of illegal teak, 12.51 tons of hardwood, and 61.72 tons of other types of timber.
In addition, four vehicles and machines were confiscated, and 17 individuals were arrested in connection with the case.— MNA
