Kyaukpandaung, 28 January

A passenger bus, carrying approximately 12 passengers and heading to Nay Pyi Taw from Kyaukpandaung, was driven by Ye Min Soe, with bus conductor Naing Min Aung onboard. The bus caught fire due to overheating in the rear engine compartment at the 41/0 mile post on the Kyaukpandaung-Meiktila road, near Kyaukpon Village in Kyaukpandaung Township, Mandalay Region, on January 28.

The Township Fire Services Department received the report at 09:12 a.m. and rushed to the scene, working alongside auxiliary firefighters and using two fire engines and one water tanker to extinguish the fire. The fire was brought under control by 09:40 a.m. and completely extinguished at 09:44 a.m.

The fire resulted in the destruction of one engine, six tires, the bus roof and seats, and goods worth a total of 5.5 million Kyats. Fortunately, no passengers were injured. The driver was arrested by the Letpanpya Police Station, and legal action is being taken under Section 285 of the Penal Code.—Nay Aung (IPRD)
