DAW Kyu Kyu Hla, wife of the State Adminis­tration Council Chair­man Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, and Honorary Patron of Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation (MWAF), attended the open­ing ceremony of the 21st annual meeting of MWAF, which was held in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

 

At the event, Chairman of the Myanmar Women’s Com­mittee Union Minister for So­cial Welfare, Relief and Reset­tlement Dr Soe Win said the MWAF is actively participat­ing in women empowerment and protection measures as a member of the committee. Moreover, in implementing the National Strategic Plan for the Advancement of Women (2023 - 2032), the MWAF makes con­certed efforts in international and regional women’s affairs in addition to education, health, in the prevention of violence against women, resilience to natural disasters, women em­powerment activities, natural environmental conservation and gender equality.

 

He continued that 11 vo­cational training schools are opened to uplift the capacity of women and run a proper business, and the trainings are conducted through school-based and community-based systems. Arrangements are also being made to launch vocational training courses for those living in temporary camps and IDP camps in nat­ural and man-made disaster areas. In the 2024-2025 finan­cial year, 176 training sessions were completed with 4,222 trainees between April and January, and 594 were hired for employment.

 

He then highlighted the cooperation among the govern­ment, women’s associations, civilian organizations and part­ner organizations to develop the women’s sector, and urged the attendees to cooperate to solve the challenges of women and young girls.

 

Honorary Patron Daw Kyu Kyu Hla presented first, sec­ond and third excellent awards in performance and coverage to chairpersons of women’s committees from Yangon Re­gion, Bago Region, Shan State and special prize to Kachin State.

 

Honorary Patron Daw Khin Thet Htay, Union Min­ister Dr Soe Win, and patrons and the MWAF chairperson presented awards to chair­persons and secretaries of the region and state women’s com­mittees, including Nay Pyi Taw.

 

Finally, attendees posed for a group documentary pho­to and observed the recorded photos displayed at the event.

 

Afterwards, MWAF Chair Dr Thet Thet Zin gave a speech at the 21st annual meeting of MWAF. The annual meeting will last until 27 February. — MNA/KTZH
