The police destroyed acres of poppy plantations in Hopong, Pinlaung and Hsiseng Township in Southern Shan State on Monday, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
An anti-drug squad from Hopong Police station annihilated almost 7 acres of poppy fields about two mile east of Bansauk Village, Hopong Township in southern Shan State from 7:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. p.m. on 9 December. Similarly, another anti-drug force eradicated around over 30 acres of poppy plantations near Waryan Village in Pinlaung Townships, southern Shan State. Policemen from Hsiseng police station also destroyed around 13 acres of poppy plantations about two miles east of Htantyan Village on the same day.
The Myanmar Police Force has been stepping up campaigns to destroy poppy cultivation throughout the country in cooperation with people, local authorities and civil society organizations.—MOHA
