Police eradicates poppy plantations in Shan State, Magway Region

The police destroyed acres of poppy plantations in Hopong and Hsiseng Townships in Shan State, Ngaphe and Minhla Townships in Magway Region on 21 January, the Ministry of Home Affairs reported. 

An anti-drug squad from the township police force destroyed almost 3 acres of poppy fields about four mile east of Hteesay Village, Hopong Township in southern Shan State on 21 January. Similarly, another police squad led by the township police force commander wiped out around 10 acres of poppy plantations near Bankan Village in Hsiseng Township in Shan State on the same day.

Two police squads also annihilated around four acres of poppy fields near Pabel and Shaukyin Villages in Ngaphe Township in Magway Region. Another anti-drug squad frm the township police force eradicated almost two acres of poppy plantations about one mile west of Zingaung Village in Minhla Township on the same day.

The Myanmar Police Force has been stepping up campaigns to destroy poppy cultivation throughout the country in cooperation with people, local authorities and civil society organizations.—MOHA
