As Poliovirus strain mutation has been found in Hpapun, Kayin State, polio vaccine will be administered to children under 5 three more times in Myawady Township.

 

Deputy Director from Ministry of Health and Sports, Dr Hnin Ngwe Ni Aye, said due to the discovery of poliovirus strain characterization in a child in Sin Swal village, Hpapun Township, Kayin State, the vaccine will be administered three more times, adding that only administering it three times can ensure 100 percent prevention , that is why caution should be taken to have the children given vaccine three times. The vaccination campaign was ordered after a child in Sin Swel village near HpapunTownship, Kayin, was found to have contracted the VPDP1 virus in June.

 

Present at yesterday vaccine campaign were District Administrator, U Tay Za Aung, Township Administrator, U Phyo Zaw Ko Ko and officials, Chairperson of Myawady District Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Daw Aye Mya Mya Kyine and members, Medical Superintendent of Myawady District People’s Hospital, Dr Yan Naing Oo, and officials.

 

This vaccine administration was the first time and will take place from July 7th to 9th. The second time will be form July 21st to 23rd and third time from August 4th to 6th. Myawady Department of Health reported that this vaccine administration will be conducted in 7 townships in Kayin State, 3 in Mon State, 2 in Bago Region, 12 townships in total.— Htein Lin Aung (IPRD)
