YANGON’S Thirimingala Market has placed loads of orders for guavas grown in the Popa area.

Popa-produced guavas are sweeter than other varieties and juicy, making the trade increase, even if the supply has been inadequate. They are also supplied to Mawlamyine, Kyaikhto, Thaton and Myeik.

“The guava has been selling well recently, even though the supply has been inadequate. Guava fruit is available throughout the year but it is scarce sometimes. Now the season restarts and the trade is pretty good. Popa-produced guava is different from other guavas, it is sweet and juicy and good for giving as a present. It has been about 4 months the price has been high” said Ma Hayman Khin Zaw from Shwe Thon Eain Popa-produced fruits wholesale trading centre in Popa.

The increased guava trade has helped farmers in villages of Madaya Township enjoy regular income, and the guava price was also good the last dry season and farmers were happy.

In July this year, a plantation project for vegetables and seasonal fruits was introduced on farmlands and crop fields in Kyaukse Township and people who grew small-scale plantation of guava could make income. — Thit Taw/ZS
