The police destroyed acres of poppy plantations in Hopong, Hsiseng, Pinlaung and Pekhon Townships in Southern Shan State on Monday, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs. 


An anti-drug squad led by the head of the township police force Police destroyed almost 9.5 acres of poppy fields about two mile east of Bansauk Village, Hopong Township in southern Shan State on 10 December. At the same time, another police squad headed by the deputy commander of the township police force eradicated around 30 acres of poppy plantations near Salone Mrauk Village in Pinlaung Townships, southern Shan State on the same day.


The commander of the township police force and his team also annihilated around 20 acres of poppy fields about two miles southeast of Kaungsawn Village in Pekhon Township. Another anti-drug squad led by the head of the township police force wiped out about 14 acres of poppy plantations around two miles southeast of Htantyang Village in Hsiseng Township on the same day.  


The Myanmar Police Force has been stepping up campaigns to destroy poppy cultivation throughout the country in cooperation with people, local authorities and civil society organizations.—MOHA
