ACCORDING to the camp’s official, plans are underway for visitors to enjoy the water festival during the upcoming Thingyan at Palin Kanthaya Elephant Camp.

It is located near Palin (West) Village on the Myingyan-Pakokku highway, NyaungU Township, Mandalay Region, on the bank of the Ayeyawady River.

Preparations include installing floating buoys, water pipes, and sprinkles in March and renovating guest tents.

“For Thingyan, we have plans to start next month. We plan to organize water play in the river during Thingyan, provide more food services, and photo scenes. We have started working. The buildings are already there. We will renovate the floating buoys and buildings, re-install the water pipes and prepare the sprinkles so that visitors can play water. We are currently renovating the tents for visitors to rest,” said U Myo Min Ko, head of the camp.

Palin Kanthayar Elephant Camp received thousands of visitors from the Thingyan period last year until the Myanmar New Year.

“Last year, during the Thingyan festival, there were a lot of visitors to the elephant camp. The number was about 500 per day with almost a thousand on the New Year. There were many donors as well as vacationers. There are still few tourists during this period, but we expect them to increase during Thingyan,” he said. — Thit Taw/ZN
