Pwintbyu, July 6

Farmers in Pwintbyu Township, Magway Region, have completed planting 2,720 acres of peanuts during this year’s rainy season, according to the Township Department of Agriculture.

The township has targeted 3,619 acres of peanut cultivation for the 2026 rainy season. Planting began in June, and 2,720 acres have been completed to date.

The Township Department of Agriculture is providing technical assistance to peanut growers by promoting the use of quality seed varieties, improved cultivation practices, effective pest and disease management, and the systematic application of agricultural inputs to enhance both yield and crop quality.

Township Agriculture Officer Daw Moe Moe Wai said that increasing peanut production would help meet local demand for edible oil while creating additional income opportunities for farmers through the sale of surplus produce, thereby contributing to the township’s socio-economic development. She added that efforts are being made to further expand peanut cultivation across the township.— Hlaing Win Lay (Pwintbyu Myay)
