PYITHU HLUTTAW Speak­er U Khin Yi met the observ­er team led by the Speaker of the Chin State Hluttaw at the Pyithu Hluttaw Building in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.

 

During the meeting, the Speaker stated that the Union-level Hluttaws leg­islate in accordance with Schedule 1 of the 2008 Con­stitution, while the Region and State Hluttaws legis­late according to Schedule 2. He noted that the State and Region Hluttaws play a key role in building a federal democratic system, which is the nation’s goal. He also mentioned the role of Hlut­taw, enactment of Myanmar Parliamentary Law and for­mation of Myanmar Parlia­mentary Union (MPU).

 

He stated the broad­casting activities of Hlut­taws on website and social media, invitation to people to study the Hluttaw, and added that the Hluttaws are members of the ASE­AN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). To enhance cooper­ation with international par­liaments, joint committees for AIPA and IPU affairs have been formed.
