Officials from Myanmar Railways held the 38th coordination meeting to upgrade Yangon-Mandalay railway yesterday. 


The meeting on videoconference discussed the first phase of Yangon-Mandalay railway upgrade project (Yangon-Taungoo section), which was being implemented with Japanese ODA Loan. 


Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Thant Sin Maung, officials from the Myanmar Railways and responsible persons from the JICA Myanmar Office Yangon, the Construction Management Consultants, and the FNS-JV, TEKKEN-RN JV and Tokyu companies which are the main contractors in civil works and signalling system in the project. The Union Minster said at the meeting that the project plays a key role in socio-economic development of the country, and that it should be finalized without delay while adhering to construction standards and safety measures, as well as following guidelines for prevention of COVID-19 in implementing the project.
