Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Ohn Maung, Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Phyo Min Thein, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar H.E. Saurabh Kumar and officials, the chairman and personnel from National Highway of Authority of India and invited guests attended a rally as part of 150th Mahatama Gandhi Birthday held at Inya Lake hotel, Yangon at 6 pm yesterday.
The rally was conducted by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in India. The rally started from New Delhi and finished at Yangon. The rally team which comprised of ten vehicles and 40 competitors drove passed through three countries—India, Bangladesh and India, a total of 7,520 kilometers for 22 days.
The Union Minister, the Chief Minister and the Indian Ambassador extended a warm welcome to the competitors by weaving miniatures in front of the hotel.
The ceremonies in commemoration of 105th Anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi Birthday will be held throughout the world from 2 October 2018 to 2 October 2020. The rally was named Peace for driving and it is aimed at bringing memory of Gandhi’s trip to Bangladesh and Myanmar and safety of roads along the rally route. –Aung Thura Ya
