Researchers give talks on China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, Myanmar’s strategy

Center for Myanmar Affairs Studies has been holding discussion on international affairs at the headquarter of News and Periodicals Enterprise on Thein Phyu street in Yangon. In this week’s session, U Zaw Aung discussed China- Myanmar Economic Corridor and the change of Myanmar’s regional strategy.

 


These discussion sessions are held by Center of Myanmar Affairs Studies with the aim of benefiting the public politically, economically and socially. The aim is also hoped to assist Myanmar democratic transition.

 


At the event, U Zaw Aung discussed challenges in building China- Myanmar Economic Corridor, MoU between Myanmar and China during new administration, policies on collaboration, long term development projects and all level network, bringing about the change of Myanmar’s strategic value in the region by implementing China Myanmar Economic Corridor and changes in politic and social generated by coincidence of Myanmar democratic transection and China’s Belt and Road Initiative and collaborations.

 


U Zaw Aung said “ I have been researching Belt and Road Initiative since 2017. I listen to State Counsellor’ speeches on her trip to China. I read, research and listen to news on developments in different places in 2 year period and also international articles and thesis about BRI.”

 


“ I mainly wrote articles in Myanmar Affairs. I noticed that different opinions of the projects were released, and they are different from the reality. I want to talk to the public about it. I would like the public to know that building basic institutions and trade are different. I want to inform the public of details by laying all data, I could get my hand on, on them.”

 


Then, Q and A section followed. Senior Researcher U Aye Maung Kyaw of Center for Myanmar Affairs Studies “There are many aspect of China Myanmar projects yet to be comprehended. To understand more of these matter, discussions international affairs are held to share knowledge of them . There are now collaborations between two countries to cement the friendship. There are also misunderstanding form public and private organizations. These sessions are held to analyze what is right and wrong to do. We are sure these sessions will produce results”. Discussion about US-China trade war and consequences of Yemen was held on July 16th.

 


It is reported discussion on current international affairs will be organized occasionally.

 


U Zaw Aung is a holder of Master in International Development from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. He has been writing articles for Myanmar Affairs and research papers.
