Director U Aung Aung Kyaw of the Department of Archeology and National Museums said that 90 per cent of the ancient and religious buildings in the Bagan Archaeological Zone, including the Bagan City Wall, have been maintained according to UNESCO guidelines.
Repairs and maintenance of ancient buildings and temples in the Bagan Archaeological Zone affected by Cyclone Mocha are undertaken with funds approved according to the financial year.
Maintenance of ancient buildings and pagodas including the Bagan city wall was completed in July of this financial year.
“Officials are doing repairs to the religious buildings affected by Cyclone Mocha and are also carrying out maintenance to areas affected by floods. The restoration status of 10 religious buildings and ancient buildings, including the Bagan city wall, has been completed 90 per cent this month,” U Aung Aung Kyaw added. Ancient building numbers: 676, 495, 505, 1,256, 1,286, 1,196, 1,239, 1,483, 1,473, 2,186, 2,176, 1,459, 1,977 and the Bagan city wall have been repaired and maintained. — ASH/KZL
