THE Myanmar Rice Federation will soon introduce a new programme to facilitate digital payments across the nation’s rice industry.

The initiative, titled the “Rice Industry Cashless Ecosystem”, aims to involve all stakeholders in the sector, including farmers, millers, traders, and exporters. Under this programme, the federation will assist in transitioning existing cash-based transactions into a secure and modern digital financial system. Electronic payment platforms, such as MMQR-Myanmar Pay and online banking services, will be promoted for wider practical application.

The federation expects the project to strengthen financial connectivity among industry stakeholders, reduce dependence on physical cash, and improve overall productivity. Furthermore, it will collaborate with banks and financial institutions to support the long-term development of the sector.

This programme aligns with the Myanmar Digital Economy Roadmap 2030 and the guidelines issued by the Central Bank of Myanmar. It seeks to bring farmers, rice mill owners, traders, exporters, and brokers across the rice value chain further into the formal banking system. — ASH/KZL
