Cambodia recorded 756 deaths from road accidents in the first half of 2023, a decrease of 20 percent from 942 in the same period last year, the National Police reported on Wednesday.
Besides the death toll, the accidents injured 2,072 others during the January-June period this year, down seven percent from 2,235 over the same period last year, the National Police said on its website.
"Eighty-one percent of the dead were motorcyclists, and 73 percent of them did not wear helmets," Deputy National Police chief and spokesman Chhay Kim Khoeun said.
Some 1,548 cases of road accidents were recorded in the first half of this year, also down four percent from 1,609 cases in the same period last year, he said.
