At least nine persons, including four women and two children, died and around 14 were injured in a road accident in India's southern state of Karnataka on Thursday, confirmed a local cop over the phone.
The accident occurred when the truck carrying the victims rammed into another heavy vehicle coming from the opposite direction. The collision happened near the Kallembella area of Tumakuru district in Karnataka.
The injured were admitted to a local hospital.
All the deceased and injured were migrant laborers and residents of the Raichur district of the state, and were migrating to state capital Bengaluru in search of work.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief over the loss of lives. He announced monetary compensation from the PM's National Relief Fund for the victims.
