Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Phyo Min Thein attended the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding to construct the “Suu” Vocational Institute along with a stake-driving ceremony in South Dagon Township, Yangon Region this morning.

First, CEC member of the National League for Democracy U Nyan Win, Korean Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Lee Sang Hwa extended greetings. Next, the leader of Woori Heemang Prof. Park Joon Ho and Chairman of Woori Consulting Corporation Mr. Hwag Seong explained the emergence and intention of the institute. Afterwards, U Aung Lay Ngwe, coordinator of the NLD’s education network and Mr. Hwag Seong inked the MoU in the presence of the regional chief minister and Korean ambassador.

Certificates of honour were then presented to the donors. The stake-driving ceremony followed and concerned officials  drove the stakes at designated places in the construction site. Korea Myanmar Social Enterprise donated money to the NLD to build schools in Hlaingthayar and Htantabin Townships in 2011 and 2012. The group also gave away sewing machines, clothing, computers and stationery for five training centers for garment workers in 2014.

Motorcar maintenance, IT, mobile phone repair, language and computer courses will be conducted at the institute. Every youth above 17 years of age regardless of race or religion can apply for a vocational training course that will admit 600 trainees yearly. —Hsan Kyaw Oo (IPRD)
