The 37th ASEAN Energy Business Forum 2019 took place at Bangkok in Thailand from 3 to 5 September 2019 Awards alongside the 37th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting, including the renowned ASEAN Energy Awards. Department of Rural Development under Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation was chosen as a winner for ASEAN Renewable Energy Project Award at the category: On-Girid- Local Grid in this forum hosted by Ministry of Energy, Thailand.

The Department of Rural Development competed for the ASEAN Energy Award with Solar Mini-grid Project on the Khanti Island at Palaw Township in Taninthayi Region, one of Mini-grid Projects implementing under Off-Grid Component of National Electrification Project. National Electrification Project(Off-Grid Electrification Programme) is started implementing in 2016-2017 Fiscal Year. Solar Home Systems are still in installation process for 100,000 and above households of 2437 Villages and also, Mini-Grid Systems for 10025 households of 38 villages in this 2018-2019 fiscal year. According to this programme, the installed capacity will be 137 MW and the CO2 Emission could be reduced up to 810.91 tCO2e within these three year periods.

Director General U Khant Zaw for Department of Rural Development attended to the Gala Dinner and the renowned ASEAN Energy Awards of the 37th ASEAN Energy Business Forum, and received the ASEAN Renewable Energy Project Award as Winner.

The 500 and above Senior Delegates from the private sector, government agencies and ministries, and Ministers from 10 ASEAN Countries attended as well.
