SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspects fish farming process, Institute of Fisheries (Twantay) in Shwemayin region of Twantay Township

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing yesterday morning inspected fish farming process and the Institute of Fisheries (Twantay) in Shwemayin region of Twantay Township in Yangon Region.

Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Soe Thein and officials reported to the Senior General on fish farming work of Yangon Command and Myanmar Economic Holdings Public Co Ltd in Shwemayin region, distribution of fish to Tatmadaw members, departmental personnel and war veterans at reduced prices, fish farming works in steps, and construction of Kinywa-Kayanwa-Yedwingon-Kwinpauk concrete road for speedy transport of fish from the farms to the market.

After hearing the reports, the Senior General said fish farming in Shwemayin region is to help meet the local fish demand of Yangon Region. As Yangon Region is home to some 9 million population, if each person consumes five ticals of fish per day, it can be seen that there remain many requirements. Fish farming work must be done with least cost for benefiting the people as well as the relevant region.

The Senior General stressed the need for transporting livestock products from the region to the market in a rapid process and for selling them at cheap prices. Hence, it is necessary to systematically supervise the route of manufacturing not to raise the cost. Fish from Shwemayin region must be distributed by cold storage trucks to the market.

The Senior General inspected the fish farming works at the relevant farms and left necessary instructions.

At the Institute of Fisheries (Twantay) under the Department of Fisheries, the Senior General met with administrative officials, faculty members and students.

The director general of Department of Fisheries reported on brief history of the institute, construction of buildings, assistance of the government for students and academic plans, and requirements of the institute. Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung gave a supplementary report.

In his speech, the Senior General said not only the institute but the university and colleges will be established for the students to continue their further studies. Agriculture, livestock breeding and technical courses at high schools in 50 districts will be opened across the nation. Qualified students from these schools will have the chance to continue learning advanced subjects.

Depending on the learning of students, the Institute will be upgraded to the college to turn out human resources for the State. Right man and right place will contribute much to development of the State.

The Senior General presented teaching aid and cash assistance for students to principal Daw Moe Thuzar Maung.

The Senior General visited the institute and gave necessary instructions to officials.

The Institute of Fisheries (Twantay) was opened on 12 December 2022 in accord with the guidance of the SAC Chairman Prime Minister to develop fish farming technology and create job opportunities. Currently, 18 male trainees and 23 female trainees are attending the institute. Depending on the academic year and results, the institute will be upgraded to the college for students to learn the advance technologies.—MNA
